The heart is a very essential organ in the body of a human
being. It’s the centre of life for all mankind; it controls the emotions and
the will of man. In addition, the heart controls the thoughts and the words
that proceed from the mouth of every man.
In several occasions in the Holy
Bible where God addresses the heart, He gives us a blueprint of the condition
of the heart. The heart as referred to in the Bible represents the emotions
and the will of man.
For anybody or anything to connect effectively to a man, it must be through the heart; all relationships that are successful are initiated from the heart. However, the heart, as indicated in the Bible, has a deadly disease.

The Condition of the Heart
Jeremiah 17:9 The
heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?
From the above scripture, it’s obvious the heart cannot lead to the truth since it’s deceitful - it leads towards the way of deceit. Moreover, because of the wickedness of the heart, it will always desire those things which are ungodly, these include lust, uncleanness, idolatry, enmity, selfishness, drunkenness etc. (Read Galatians 5:19-21)
Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, Fornications, theft, false witness, blasphemies;

Before sin is given birth into the world, it’s first of all
conceived in the heart, as Jesus says in the above verse, that out of the heart
proceeds all manner of evil.
This shows clearly that every sin is first premeditated in the heart. The heart has a disease and its disease is sin; and that is the condition of the heart of every man. Only God knows and understands the heart.

Jeremiah 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to every man according to his ways, and according to fruit of his doings
The Remedy
Man cannot trust his own heart to provide a cure to its own
disease. The heart is so helpless and void of purpose to be trusted.
Proverbs28:26 He that trust in his own heart is a fool: but whosoever walks wisely, he shall be delivered
The system of the world tells you to follow your heart. However, the word of God indicates that you cannot trust the heart. Actually you cannot cure your heart by giving in to its deceitfulness.
As the Bible commands, “but whosoever walks wisely, he shall be delivered”. The point here is: walking wisely. You can only walk wisely when you have the right direction, and this comes only from God. So the cure of the heart is in the word of God.
Psalms 119:11 Your
word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you
Walking wisely is having the word of God in your heart which helps you to overcome sin. In addition to that, God requires you to totally surrender your heart to Him.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with your soul, and with all your mind
The Conclusion
Finally, there are many things in the current world looking for the attention of your heart; these include wealth and prosperity, education, power, pornography, prostitution, homosexuality, and all other form of wickedness. You need to always keep and guard your heart from all these since it’s the centre of your life as the verse below indicates:Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence; for out it are issues of life
More to that, for you to cure your heart totally from sin, you have to let go your will and heart desires and let God recreate your heart.
Joel 2:13 and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for He is Gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repents Him of evil
