Why The Word Of God Is Important To You

God’s word might not have been written by a finger but those who wrote every verse in the Bible were inspired by God.

God creates, builds, plants, roots out, destroys and pull down through his word. He is in his word and his word is in him; the word is God.

The Bible clearly states that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3

Why You Need God’s Word

As men, we need God in every step of life. God being the Word, I have stated 4 major reasons why you must read and hide this word in your life.

1. It will cleanse you

The word of God cleanses and purifies us from our sins and all manner of uncleanness. Jesus once told his disciples, “Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” John 15:3

Again, before he was crucified, while praying for his disciples, during the final prayer, Jesus asks the Father: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17

The verb sanctify means render holy, make pure or free from sin/guilt. That’s exactly what the word of God will do to you.

2. The Word will Guide you

This is the act of showing the way; the act of setting and holding a course, something that provides direction or advice as to a decision or a course of action.

The word of God gives guidance through rebuke, reproof, correction and giving instructions on every specific issue or situation. Paul tells Timothy that All scripture is…profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  2 Timothy 3:16

This indicates that the word of God acts as light to illuminate your ways, enabling you to see which is the direction from that which is not. No wonder David says Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105

3. It will give you Prosperity

Prosperity means very lively and profitable, flourishing or palmy. We can start by looking what Joshua was commanded by God:

This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Joshua 1:8

Joshua was commanded to keep and meditate on the book of law which is the word of God after which he would prosper in his way and have good success. This shows the word of God make people to prosperous.

Here is another verse to help you understand more about prosperity: But whosoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:25

4. It will re-create you and destroy any unfruitfulness in you

In the beginning, God used his word to create things. By simply saying "let there be light", there was light.

Likewise, God can too use his word to destroy things which are evil or not fruitful.

Is not my word like as a fire? says the LORD; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? Jeremiah  23:29

This verse relates the word of God to fire, and we know fire burns, devours and destroys. What the word of God will actually do is destroy unwanted things in your live.

In some instances, fire is also used in reshaping and reforming some things and give them a new look. Ever wondered where the transformation a person gains after receiving Jesus Christ comes from? How “bad” people suddenly become “good”? It’s the work of God’s word; it recreates us and reforms some things in our lives.

Finally, the word of God can become anything you need. This includes healing, money, wisdom etc. However, the best thing it can do for you is transforming you into a new creature by the renewing of your mind, and align it with God's will, making you Christ-like.
