They Touched The Heart Of Jesus!

It's like COMPLITKENYA read my heart long time ago as they fulfilled my cry in the recent article "A Birthday Celebration Without the Birthday-boy!"

COMPLITKENYA, an NGO that works towards accelerating access to basic computer knowledge for rural dwellers in Kenya, organized an event on 23rd December that obviously wrought a lasting mark in the lives of orphans and dwellers of Gesima Ward, Nyamira County, Kenya.

I'm a journalist, and this article leaning more to news-like, I may slide a bit into my journalism class. But I promise to work hard in bringing out my intended human-interest message.

Indelible smiles

The event dubbed 'Christmas Outreach Programme for Orphans in Gesima Ward' saw more than 250 vulnerable children experience true love, care and compassion that completely overturned the pain and despair they undergo daily.

The children had a lot of fun as they got entertained by local gospel artists and Deejays. They shared lunch and later received Christmas gifts which included wheat flour, cooking oil and clothes. The smiles on their faces said it all.

Another incredible activity was the free medical camp which reached over 500 people , especially them with common ailments. Not only the orphans but also the locals did access free check-ups and medication. The camp was organized by Healthcare Centre, a local NGO.

So, where's the Smiley Jesus?

Since it was Jesus' birthday, as I indicated in the article A Birthday Celebration Without The Birthday-Boy, it's important we do and present Him what makes His heart merry. I strongly believe Jesus gladly smiled from heaven as He watched COMPLITKENYA create joy in the hearts of the orphans and residents of Gesima ward.

Most of these orphans can hardly afford a meal a day and some, whose parents died of HIV/AIDS don't even know their status. They are viewed as economic burden and thus marginalized and deprived of family protection.

Couldn't Jesus be pleased to do what COMPLITKENYA did to these destitute children? That's how they made Jesus smile and His birthday worth celebrating. They did his will and desire.

The blessing of local leaders

The vent was graced by local leaders including the Gesima Ward Administrator Mr Paul Nyatuka and a Kitutu Masaba parliamentary aspirant, Mr Victor Swanya and a Gesima Ward representative aspirant Mr Seth Omao who is a lecturer in Rwanda.

Several University students’ leaders from across Gusii land attended and volunteered at the event to make it a success. Among them were the President of South Eastern Kenya University students association Mr Walter Samwel, Maseno University Academics Director Mercyline Masanya who is also Nyamira County’s representative at the Youth Senate, Brian Bosire of the Jomo Kenyatta University, Justine Bosire from University of Nairobi and Benwel Omanga from South Eastern Kenya University.

The leaders lauded the initiative and called for sustainability of the programme and the need to find a lasting solution to the plight of these vulnerable children.

The event was organized by COMPLITKENYA CEO, Eric Kimori, COMPLITKENYA Programs Administrator, Douglas Kamanda and Healthcare Rescue Centre CEO, Roselyne Nyakona David.
